S4 Week 5

Hey guys!

I wish I could have had more work done this week in the lab, but the autoclave was down and I could not make more media. I was grateful that Daisy let me use some of her plates. But I still can not wait until it gets fixed. I got face samples from Irvin who is combination. I have notice that combination bacteria grows very pretty. The bacteria grows very circular. I started putting some of the bacteria in FTM since it is a rich media but it was also tell if the bacteria likes oxygen and to what degree.

S4 Week 4

Hey guys!

Unfortunately I was not in the lab to get much work done this week because I got my wisdom teeth removed on Wednesday. It was so painful and frightening. I normally produce a lot of saliva but since my mouth was bleeding, it literally looked like I was vomiting blood. I had no control of my lips and tongue, so I could not close my mouth. I had blood pouring out of my mouth and leaking all over my shirt. But the healing process was not too bad, I got a lot of sleep. Plus I lost 14 pounds in less than a week. I should get my teeth extracted more often haha.

On to my project, I took swabs of the lovely Daisy's face who is combination on Tuesday. I am thinking of doing 2 people (1 male and 1 female) for each skin type so I do not run out of time. I am still taking donations of your lovely skin bacteria :)

S4 Week 3

Hey guys!

Thank you for those who asked if my mother is okay. She is getting much better.

This week, I was still trying to regrow my samples in FTM and blood agar. The results are very weak. Out of a set of like 10 plates, only like two grew. I think most, if not all of my samples are dead. I believe that I am wasting my time right now sadly. I am requesting that if you guys have time that I need facial samples from people with dry, combination, oily, and normal skin under the age of 30.

If you do not know your skin type, wash your face with warm water and facial cleanser. Pat your face dry and wait for about 10-30 minutes (Do not apply lotion). If your skin is peeling and ashy: you are dry. If your skin is oily in some areas and dry or decently moisturized in others: you are combination. If your skin is greasy all over: you are oily. If your face feels neither oily or dry and the moisture is distributed evenly across your face: you are normal. I am really hoping to hear from you guys. Thank you :)!

S4 Week 2

Hey guys!

This week was so hectic. Sadly I was not in the lab as much because I was busy studying for tests. I also was very sleep deprived this week since I was visiting my mother in the hospital

The plates from last week that did not grow, also did not grow this week after being put on another plate. I put them in some FTM and I am waiting to see the results. Literally out of the 6 plates in the photo, only one grew.

If some of the bacteria died, I'll be asking for more samples from you guys. Thanks in advance :)

S4 Week 1

Hey guys! Happy New Years!

It was great seeing you guys again. Hope we all have a great semester with amazing work done.
I am still resuming my current project. On Tuesday, I was plating some of my bacteria from the last semester on blood agar because it is a rich media which will definitely grow stubborn bacteria.

On Thursday, I went to look at my results and sadly some did not grow though. So I made FTM tubes which is also a rich media; this will grow the stubborn ones too. I put more of the bacteria that did not grow previously on some more blood agar plates. So I am also going to be growing the bacteria in FTM tubes too. If the previous ones that did not grow does the same in the FTM tubes, I will pronounce them as dead.

S3 Week 14

Hey guys!

It is so great that the semester is ending. It was fun but majorly stressful. I hope you guys had a great semester and have your projects going well too.

Sadly I was not able to complete my project in time to get to the point of identifying each bacteria. I do believe that I have more data since last time but if only I did not run out of time. But at least the three test tubes that didn't grow previously finally grew on blood agar.

Hopefully the samples will not die in the fridge over the break. But I feel like each semester is a learning process on how to build a better project. I am actually excited for the Metro Tech presentations and I can't wait to see yours too.
I had a great time with the rest of you guys this semester, I'll miss you guys. Have a great break!

S3 Week 10

Hey guys!
So this week I was just inoculating bacteria from the plates. There is seriously so much plates that I collected from people's faces. I wish I got less samples but you never know when you put too much on your plate until it is too late. I am honestly grateful for Amber guidance. She gave me so much help and gave me a lot of blood agar. This week I went to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children. It is a organization that packages food for children in need all over the world. They believe that children need healthy meals to focus in schools. If you guys never volunteered before, you should totes do it. My family struggled when they came to America and we received help. It feels really nice to give back to a community that does not have much and actually knowing the impact because you felt it before.
